what can I say, it’s summer. I’m back. and by that I mean, we’re ten days into the summer vacation and the student center where I work is slow and quiet and boring. I get most of my work done within the first two hours of the day, and then what do you do?

especially if no one responds to your emails from the last day?

Life itself is not slow — it’s plenty busy, actually, just not the moments that I’m supposed to be at work. don’t worry, I’m not going to just waste my time — I have lots of ideas for projects to be a good steward of my position. But I feel like I can take 400 words or so to write for a bit.

we close on our new house in sixteen days. sixteen days! our new house! our first house! what an adventure and a dream and a scary ride. there’s so much to learn and to process, that I’m not even really sure what to say yet or how to think about it. we are ready for the change, but we know the responsibility will be hard. money will be tighter. we’ll have a lot more work to do around the house.

I think we’re ready, though. I think we are ready for this next step. of course, it’s new. we’ve been married a year, and we’re still experiencing new things all of the time. it’s new. but we can do it.

our lives are for sure not the only ones changing. I think we will look back and see this summer as a huge transition year — other friends moving, coming and going and having babies and trying for babies and grieving the lack of babies and sharing the same boxes and drop cloths and painting supplies and some of us will harvest vegetables at the end of the summer, even though it probably won’t be me and daniel.

this is our summer.
